Job Summary: The Survey CAD Technician is responsible for preparing detailed drawings, plans, and layouts using computer-aided design (CAD) software, based on survey data collected from field surveys. This role supports the surveying and engineering teams by transforming field data into accurate and clear technical drawings for various projects, including land development, construction, and infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- CAD Drafting:
- Create and modify survey drawings using CAD software based on data collected from field surveys.
- Prepare detailed topographic maps, boundary surveys, as-built drawings, and other technical drawings.
- Ensure that all drawings meet industry standards and company specifications.
- Data Processing:
- Import and process survey data from total stations, GPS, and other surveying instruments.
- Verify the accuracy and completeness of survey data.
- Generate digital terrain models (DTMs) and contour maps from survey data.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with surveyors, engineers, and project managers to understand project requirements and provide accurate deliverables.
- Communicate effectively with field survey teams to resolve discrepancies and clarify data requirements.
- Quality Control:
- Review and check drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project specifications.
- Maintain and organize CAD files, ensuring proper version control and documentation.
- Technical Support:
- Assist in the development and maintenance of CAD standards and procedures.
- Provide technical support and training to team members on CAD software and best practices.
- Documentation:
- Prepare and maintain survey records, reports, and documentation as required.
- Ensure proper documentation and archiving of all project-related drawings and data.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years’ experience in land surveying preferred.
- Candidate will be required to demonstrate strong self-motivational and organizational skills, experience with survey computations and platting. Field experience preferred.
- Position may require some field work.
- Land Development survey experience with emphasis on land development projects and ALTA surveys a plus.
- Experience with following programs preferred: AutoCAD, Google Earth, Microsoft Word & Excel.
- Experience with the following equipment preferred: Carlson data collection, GPS receivers, and robotic total stations.
- Computer skills involved in the submittal of daily files including downloading of data, preparation/organization of field sketches & digital photographs, completion of daily checklists is required.
- Candidate must be able to pass a background check, and have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the company’s driving (MVR) policy.
- Candidate will be required to demonstrate strong self-motivational and organizational skills, experience with survey computations and platting. Field experience preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional certifications or licenses in surveying or CAD drafting.
- Experience in land development, construction, or infrastructure projects.
- Knowledge of GIS software and applications.
Work Environment:
- Primarily office-based with occasional field visits as needed.
- May require occasional travel to project sites.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit for extended periods while working on a computer.
- Ability to occasionally lift and move survey equipment or materials up to 25 pounds.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $23.66 - $25.21 per hour
