A school located in upper Manhattan is seeking a Special Education Hearing Teacher to work part time starting in fall of 2024 with grades 9-12. The teacher will be responsible for offering tailored instruction, support, and advocacy to students while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to foster an inclusive and effective learning environment.
The base pay range for this position is $35 to $50 per hour. The actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based on geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of the offer. Responsibilities:
- Utilize specialized teaching techniques and resources to improve learning and communication for students with hearing impairments.
- Modify curriculum materials to accommodate various learning styles and abilities.
- Perform regular assessments to track student progress and adapt teaching strategies as needed.
- Maintain regular communication with parents and guardians to provide updates on student progress, address concerns, and offer guidance for supporting learning at home.
- Participate in IEP meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and other relevant meetings.
- Advocate for the needs and rights of students with hearing impairments within the school community.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors or Masters Degree in Deaf Education, Special Education or related field.
- Teaching certification in special education or deaf education
- Prior experience working with children who have hearing impairments and other special needs.
