REQUIREMENTS
We will consider self-employed contractors only for this position, and as such you will be asked to provide us with proof of your self-employment.
Given the time difference with London, and the nature of the role, it is critical for us to work with highly reactive people, fast to respond to emails and calls, in as well out of working hours - in particular during your onboarding process and when working on tickets/deployments.
THE ROLE & KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Based in Salt Lake City, the role holder will be focusing on equipment installation; device configuration; maintenance, testing & troubleshooting.
As a self-employed Hardware Data Centre Field Engineer, your main responsibilities will be:
Equipment installation
- Site preparation: staging, "Rack and Stack", configuration, and product preparation.
- Inventorying & labeling of equipment.
- Power cycling a router, server, and switch and soft-booting a server.
- Infrastructure data cabling.
- Running new cable and cross-connects.
- Swapping hard drives, memory, any other internal component.
- Swapping of hot swappable components.
Device configuration
- Configuration of existing & new equipment.
- Keyboard, video and mouse (KVM) installation/configuration.
- Providing a KVM or IP Switch so that clients are able to configure their hardware remotely.
Maintenance, testing & troubleshooting
- General network and system troubleshooting.
- Set-up and connection of console port for remote management.
- Relaying equipment status and entering commands onto a pre-installed console.
- Circuit testing with carriers, liaising with third party engineers.
- Connectivity testing.
- Shipping & Receiving of equipment.
- Cleaning equipment and cabinets.
Reporting
- Provide regular updates to London based Manager when working on tickets/deployments, including a detailed summary of the work conducted before leaving the customer’s site.
- Keep B-612 database up to date at all times by inputting all relevant information when working on a tickets/deployments.
- Follow B-612 technical and quality procedures as detailed in the onboarding process.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Successful candidates will have to demonstrate the following skills & experience:
Technical skills
- Comprehensive computer/server hardware knowledge, including troubleshooting skills and replacing all components.
- Comprehensive computer network knowledge, understanding network infrastructure and IP architecture.
- Network troubleshooting skills, identifying and resolving issues in server networks.
- At least 1 to 2 years experience working in a Data Centre environment is required.
Other Key skills required:
- We are looking for a proactive, self-starter professional, able to think your feet and work well autonomously.High responsiveness to emails and calls is critical, especially during the onboarding process and when working on tickets/deployments.
- We expect you to be punctual and demonstrate a professional and reliable attitude.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work well within a team.
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $50.00 - $60.00 per hour
