GENERAL SUMMARY
Maternal Fetal Care, PC is an established, full-service, perinatal practice providing services to gynecologic patients, expectant mothers and unborn babies. The services include high resolution sonography, consultation in all aspects of obstetrics, co-management of complicated pregnancies, preconception counseling, amniocentesis, CVS, fetal echocardiography, genetic counseling and testing and antepartum testing.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The sonographer performs ultrasound procedures consistent with industry standards and regulations and adheres to MFCPC policies and procedures under the direction and supervision of the physician.
Greets patients in a prompt, courteous manner. Prepares patients for ultrasound examinations. Explains procedures to the patient prior to the commencement of the testing. Provides patient education related to medical ultrasound. Explains procedures to assure cooperation and optimum test results. Ensures that the appropriate consent and/or declinations are obtained. Prepares patients for physicians.
Treats patients in the same manner that they would want their family members or they themselves to be treated. Anticipates the patient’s needs. Maintains high standards of care. Creates an exceptional experience for patients.
Reviews medical records in advance of patient visit to obtain necessary clinical information including patient history, lab results, and physician orders prior to examination. Communicates with patients to obtain history data.
Records anatomical, pathological, and/or physiological data for interpretation by a physician. Completes all authorized patient chart documentation in an accurate, legible and timely manner. Maintains patient charts and records. Records and processes sonographic data and other pertinent observations made during the procedure for presentation to the interpreting physician.
Manages the patient’s right to privacy with meticulous care 100% of the time. Keeps patient and proprietary information about the institution confidential.
Conducts diagnostic ultrasound procedures to the specifications requested by the physician.
Performs obstetric and pelvic diagnostic ultrasound procedures, including: dating scans, nuchal translucency and nasal bone evaluations, umbilical artery, uterine artery, middle cerebral artery, and ductus venosus Doppler imaging, color and power Doppler mapping, cervical length measurements, Level II genetic sonograms, fetal growth studies, biophysical profiles, multiple gestations, 3-D and 4-D applications, sonohysterograms, and basic fetal echocardiography.
Assists physician during invasive procedures requiring ultrasound guidance, such as amniocentesis, chorionic villus sampling and other specialized procedures, as medically indicated.
Calibrates, adjusts, and selects proper transducer and technical settings for accurate ultrasound imaging, including Doppler, color imaging, M-mode and real time techniques. Evaluates new products and equipment for possible future use.
Maintains proper operation of the ultrasound equipment and adequate inventory of ultrasound supplies. Recognizes equipment malfunctions and notifies leadership when equipment failures occur.
Participates in department quality assurance studies. Documents appropriate billing codes for services performed to ensure accurate patient charges. Submits completed billing work sheets daily. Notifies coder of additional services performed which require authorization.
Maintains effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and co-workers. Demonstrates collaboration, accountability, respect, excellence, and service.
Recognizes ethical, legal and professional issues inherent in providing care to pregnant women, infants and children. Acts in a non-directive, non-judgmental manner, recognizing an individual’s religious, ethical, and moral opinions/beliefs.
Complies with safety and security training and OSHA standards and regulations. Complete all required Compliance Training. Participates in staff development, in-service workshops, and educational activities. Participates in professional development activities and meetings. Maintains professional registries.
Demonstrates independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative in the performance of ultrasonography for diagnosis.
Assists in the clinical instruction of sonography students, OB/GYN residents and medical students.
Performs other assigned duties as directed
QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from an accredited Ultrasound Program is required.
Two years year experience in Maternal Fetal Medicine is highly preferred.
ARDMS registration in OB/GYN is required.
ARDMS registration in Fetal Echocardiography is highly preferred.
Certifications in Nuchal Translucency and Nasal Bone is required.
