POSITION SUMMARY:
As Peer Advocate you will be responsible for providing peer support services in the engagement of prospective and enrolled patients in substance abuse treatment. You will also facilitate outreach with individuals currently in a program or considering treatment. Utilizing your recovery expertise, professional training and lived experience, you will boost individuals' engagement in treatment and commitment to recovery.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Work with individuals and active clients, to engage them in entering and participating in the treatment/recovery process.
- Engage with individuals to consider entering treatment
- Engage clients to attend treatment or other healthcare services
- Engage individuals in continuing care services post-discharge
- Facilitate discharge planning and referral procedures
- Assist in developing treatment/recovery plans, including the set-up of goals and objectives.
- Raise awareness of existing social and other support services.
- Model coping skills.
- Assist with applying for benefits.
- Accompany clients to appointments.
- Provide non-clinical crisis support.
- Work with participants to identify strengths.
- Link participants to formal recovery supports.
- Educate participants about various modes of recovery.
- Educate and support, on the use of medication assisted treatment.
- Communicate with other staff to benefit client progress.
- Complete documentation required for the maintenance of patient records.
- Relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- State Certification as a Recovery Peer Advocate required.
- Ability to communicate effectively with written and verbal skills.
- Minimum of 1-year active participation in peer support or peer advocacy programs or participant run organization or similar experiences required.

Salary Range:
Minimum: $17.25 p/h to Maximum: $25.88 p/h
Newly hired employees will be paid between $17.25 p/h and $18.98 p/h depending on level of qualifications.
