The TrussCo is looking for a Commercial Truss Designer who is a self-motivated team member who is eager to continue expanding their skills with excellent communication and math skills. The TrussCo is a leading manufacturer of engineered wood roof and floor trusses, selling to the residential, commercial, and agricultural construction markets in the PNW. We are looking for a skilled Commercial Truss Designer to support our organization as we grow to new heights.
A typical day may include...
- Create accurate and efficient truss designs based on prepared blueprints, project specifications, architectural drawings, and engineering calculations
- Conduct job site inspections/evaluations, structural analysis, and ensure designs comply with local building codes and regulations
- Uses computer-aided drafting software to create truss designs for production, sales staff, and the field
- Work closely with architects, engineers, and project managers to integrate truss designs into overall building plans
- Act as the primary contact with Sales for commercial projects
- Support colleagues with rush orders, as necessary
- Prepare detailed designs, specifications, material & cut lists, and documentation necessary for manufacturing and construction
- Creates a materials list for the sales staff to price from; preparing an accurate list of necessary materials needed to complete jobs
- Partner with sales staff by providing layouts, technical support and data, as needed
- Maintain low error rates through thorough review of designs provided by customers, and revise as needed; optimizing performance, cost-effectiveness, and manufacturability.
- Ensure all commercial projects are meeting customer expectations and time schedules.
- Ensures proper installation in the field by providing customer service/troubleshooting to internal/external builders.
- Stay current with industry trends, new materials, and technologies to improve design efficiency and quality
- Ensure proper details are included in the plan by performing necessary plan changes and revisions by builder or architects
- Regular and predictable attendance during assigned working hours
- Other duties and special projects as assigned by Design Manager
Keys to success with The TrussCo...
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in truss design, preferably in a commercial construction environment
- AA degree or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architecture, or related field preferred
- Strong understanding of load calculation and transfer, analytic and math skills, regulations, and construction practices related to truss design
- Proficiency in MiTek Sapphire software, Microsoft Office, and structural analysis tools
- Understanding of roof truss products and their application related to commercial construction
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work effectively independently or in a team environment.
- Proficiently read and interpret blueprints, familiarity with roof truss products, and ability to execute take-off list
- Solid customer service skills; communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and written

The expected starting pay is $27 - $35 per hour, based on the candidate’s equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. The position is eligible for overtime compensation based on the wage and hour laws in the state where the job is performed.
