We are actively recruiting for a Director of Safety. The Arc Baltimore Director of Safety is responsible for enhancing the safety of employees, supported people, and visitors to agency sites through the development and implementation of an agency-wide safety and emergency preparedness programs. The programs should encompass all applicable areas of a “best practices” safety program, incorporating elements such as hazard analysis and inspections, safety training, accident investigations, and emergency contingency planning. The Director will also oversee the agency’s Risk Management function, identify, eliminate or mitigate the various risks to the integrity and financial status of the agency.

What you ‘ll be doing:

Generate, implement and keep current with “Best Practices” of the following policies that affect the agency’s Safety function: Emergency Readiness, Workplace Safety, Risk Management and Driver’s Policy. These policies must ensure that the agency is compliant with relevant governmental laws, funding source regulations, and to the degree possible, accrediting body standards.

Design and deliver training(s) for employees and people supported by the agency that prepares them to successfully implement safety- and emergency-readiness-related policies, procedures and techniques.

Initiate and maintain an agency-wide safety inspection program, reporting results of inspections to relevant managers on a periodic basis.

Oversee the Driver qualification process, driver records, and driver training.

Initiate and maintain a vehicle collision, staff injury and property damage investigation program. Analyze adverse events and "near miss” incidents in a timely manner so that root causes can be identified and addressed with hazard elimination being the goal.
- Initiate and keep current Hazard Communication and Hearing Conservation programs, as required by OSHA.

Serve as a resource regarding safety-related issues and questions for employees and people supported by the agency. Part of this duty is to communicate safety-related information (product warnings, safe practices, etc.) to constituents on a regular basis.

Must have Loss Control and Risk Management experience in ensuring agency wide compliance to State/Federal regulations, DDA regulations preferred.
Education & Experience

A valid Driver’s License.

At least five (5) years of Loss Control/Risk Management experience.

At Least five (5) years of administrative and/or management experience.

Policy development and training skills required.
- Completion of safety-related training programs from a nationally recognized organization required.
- Knowledge of OSHA Standards is a plus.
- Must have proficient computer software skills: Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills required.

Maintain confidentiality.
- Comfort with public speaking.
Working Conditions

Primarily a daytime administrative job, but some evenings and occasionally weekend work may be required.

A willingness to travel within the region is required.

This position will be a hybrid position and allows flexibility of work in the office environment, site/community-based locations, or remote environment as dictated by the needs of the organization. This may change due to division needs.
