The Field Service Technician is responsible for high quality and effective repair of equipment in the field. The successful incumbent must work independent of direct supervision in the field environment. Follows all policies and procedures as specified in Company manuals, provides excellent customer service, maintains professionalism, and ensures appropriate and detailed records for time, parts, supplies, purchases and repairs.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Reconditions and repairs equipment and components. Plans method and sequence of performing repairs assigned, pre-orders all parts and materials required to perform assigned repairs, repairs are performed in a safe and effective manner, ensures all repairs are completed as assigned, ensures a clean and aesthetic appearance upon completion. If parts and materials are not used, ensures the return of such parts and materials per guidelines in effect, and maintains a clean and safe work area.
- Maintains complete and detailed working records for time, parts, supplies, and outside purchases for repairs. Ensures all record keeping methods are followed per Company manuals and instructions, all cost-related items are included in the job "jacket" and all records are legible and in compliance with established Company methods. All record keeping is reported daily from the field, whether returning to the Company location or not.
- Maintains and cares for all Company equipment and Company vehicles. All specialty tools to be used on any job are obtained using established Company practices and methods, and are clean before being returned to the Company location. Tools are to be returned to the original Company location where they were obtained from and must be in the same or similar working condition as when they left the location. Company/field vehicles are to be operated properly and condition is to be maintained. As per Company guidelines, vehicles are to be clean and aesthetically pleasing when returned to the original Company location, and as per Company guidelines.
- Performs diagnostic inspections as directed. Repairs are determined by the technician while at the machine. Established guidelines are followed for inspections and to determine cause or causes of failure. All inspections are completed with the cause of failure identified and solutions determined to affect the repair.
- Represents the Company at factory, industry and company events, including meetings and training
- Follows all safety rules and regulations while performing work assignments and adheres to all policies and procedures as specified in company manuals and as directed in the employee handbook
- Performs all other duties as assigned by management in a professional and efficient manner
- Interacts with customers and co-workers on a daily basis. May also have interaction with sub-contractors of customers. Accountable for following all DOT, OSHA, ISO9001 and established Company rules, regulations and guidelines. Measure of success determined by established Company guidelines, including but not limited to quality of repairs completed, time required to complete repairs, feedback from customers, ability to take guidance and direction from Manager and execute upon such feedback.
Desired Skills & Experience:
- High School diploma, GED or vocational training/certification
- 1-3 years’ experience in the same or similar industry
- Must own and maintain your own tools
- Mechanical/technical aptitude, safe work habits, a good working knowledge of equipment operations and mechanical functions
- Strong diagnostic skills, works with minimal supervision, customer service oriented, a problem solver, reliable, ethical, able to adapt to the people and environment around them - customers, suppliers, co-workers and manufacturer's employees
- Experience with hydraulic systems, electrical, electronics, pneumatics, diagnosing and calibration a plus
- Must communicate professionally, respectfully and honestly with customers and co-workers at all times and communication is to be clear and language is to be profanity free and professional, while employee demeanor is to be calm and composed
- Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs, stand, walk, use hands and fingers, handle, feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk and hear.
- May be required to climb, balance and sit for an undetermined period of time
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
- Regularly exposed to extreme weather elements, including wet and/or humid conditions, extreme cold and extreme heat, moving mechanical parts and equipment, and noise level in working environment can be moderate to high
- CDL and/or clean driving record, background check and pre-employment drug testing required
- Personal appearance must be neat and clean
- Travel as required
