Elementary Language Arts and Social Studies Teacher, Lower School

This position involves teaching English, Reading and Social Studies classes to students in 4th grade. This position begins August 1.
Specific duties include:
- Carrying out a program of study prescribed in the English, Reading and Social Studies curriculum
- Creating a learning environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity, interests, and learning styles of the students
- Having a thorough knowledge of grammar and understanding its importance to the class and to student writing
- Carrying out ongoing assessment of reading needs; writing and modifying lesson plans as needed; maintaining student achievement records
- Managing student behavior in a manner that optimizes the learning environment
- Working cooperatively with other grade-level teachers to develop instructional materials that are most appropriate for meeting curricular objectives
- Displaying a willingness to follow school procedures and regulations
- Communicating effectively with students, parents, teachers, and school administrators
Required Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills demonstrating tact and diplomacy
- Competency with basic word processing, spreadsheets, and internet
- A solid understanding of learning challenges as well as the accommodations and differentiated learning techniques to support students’ needs
- Strong organizational and classroom management skills
Minimum Job Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from an accredited institution of higher learning; master’s degree in education preferred
- 3+ years of successful teaching at the elementary level preferred
- Independent school experience preferred, but not required
This position is an exempt, salaried, ten month position located in College Park, GA. Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Benefits are substantial. EOE
