The Grant Accounting Associate will support the mission of Feeding Southwest Virginia and is responsible for the accurate and timely accounting and reporting of all government (federal, state, and local) and private grants. Success in this department involves preparing, purchase orders, working with the CFO, Controller, and other staff to ensure that we are in compliance with various contract requirements.
The Grants Accountant will be highly organized and able to handle several grants simultaneously. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, taking initiative, and a team player. This position is responsible for preparing purchase orders for the CFO’s and/or Controller’s review and to submit all related grant reporting. The Grants Accountant will also track invoices, review receivables, and perform other duties as required.

1. As the Grants Accountant, he/she must demonstrate a professional demeanor in interactions with all FSWVA staff and government officials.
· Stays informed and consistently practices the policies and procedures of Feeding Southwest Virginia, Feeding America national office regarding compliance.
· Possesses knowledge of Feeding Southwest Virginia and all programs.
2. The Grant Accounting Associate reports to the Chief Financial Officer and Controller, is an integral member of the finance team and is responsible for functions related to grants accounting/auditing, grant tracking and grant budget preparation.
· Understand all grant provisions and ensure compliance with each grant reporting requirement.
· Collect all grant expenditures and ensure timely and accurate billing to Federation of Virginia Food Banks
· Reconcile income and expense accounts for grant funds.
· Prioritize projects to keep multiple projects moving in a timely manner and to meet internal and external deadlines.
· Monitor government grant receivable details for delayed payments and other irregularities.
· Work with Accounts Payable Department to obtain all supporting documents for expenses covered by grants and contracts, issue proper purchase orders.
· Work across organization to secure time attestations, outcomes reporting and other supporting documents.
· Enter grant allocations to programs into Excel and track in accounting system;
· Update and maintain grant reports and schedules on a monthly basis.
· Ability to work efficiently in a deadline-driven environment. Monitor and record all financial activity and spending in accordance with agency guidelines. Prepare Grant budgets to be reviewed by the CFO and/or Controller which will be used in the submission of Grant requests.
· Assist CFO and COO in coordinating and tracking purchases of the CDBG Grant and other Government Funding.
· Train with Other Finance team members and learn FSWVA’s accounting system.

· Performs other duties as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer, Controller, and the President and CEO.

Training, Education and Experience:
· 1-2 years related grant accounting experience in a fast paced non-profit environment, required
· Associated degree required. Bachelor’s degree in accounting a plus.
· Strong/ Intermediate Excel Skills.
· Demonstrated experience gathering backup documentation to support State and Financial Audits
· Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

· Experience with or knowledge of social service/hunger issues a plus

Technical/Computer Skills:
· Proficiency required in the use of Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Outlook Software, Accounting Software; inventory or gift tracking software experience a plus.
· Capable of learning and independently operating equipment required for the position including but not limited to printer, multi-use copier, and phone system
