Function: Dog Handler
Area: Field
Reports to: Kennel Manager and Dog Captain
About Blixt and Company:
At Blixt and Company we offer traditional driven pheasant and partridge shooting in the United States of America. It is our goal to bring a long-held English tradition to the majestic American West.
The Field Team: Field Manager, Game Keepers, Dog Handlers, Loaders and Beaters ensure that the guests are having a great time on the field, rain or shine.
We provide an elegant environment and preform a first class sport in The Teton Valley, Idaho with stunning views of the Grand Tetons.
Role:
The Blixt and Company dog team is a dedicated group of handlers that share their passion for great dog work and commitment to recover every bird down. Utilising their own dogs, some handlers running multiple dogs at a time, mark downed and wounded birds for timely and effective retrieval. At the end of every drive, a coordinated sweep ensures that all the game is respectfully gathered for the game cart. Handlers are responsible for counting and hanging the game.
We value a positive attitude, hard work and that you start every day with a smile.
It's important that communication runs smooth throughout the team on the field. We want to exude a professional manner and always look our best for the guests.
The greatest motivation for a Dog Handler should be the partnership you have with your dog, we see it as a key quality that you are a self starter and want to work on developing that relationship with your dog. If you don’t have your own dog, we have a number of company dogs that could be assigned to a trained handler. The Handler team will be asked to participate in off season training to ensure that all dogs and handlers are performing at the level required.
All dogs are required to be trained to a level that the dog will be handled without the use of Electronic collars. Blixt and Company adheres to an E-collar free environment.
Your Dog Must:
- Be trained, under control and responsive to your instructions at all times without an e-collar
- All dogs permitted to work need to be vetted, current on all vaccinations. Documentation must be presented to Dog Captain
- All dogs allowed on shoot days must be recognized as sporting or Classic hunting dog breeds
- Be steady (not chase) fur, feather, deer or livestock or other dogs
- Remain silent (not whine or bark) while waiting to retrieve
- Deliver game readily to hand and without damage
- Be able to retrieve shot game from all kinds of cover, including water
- All dogs will be covered by Blixt and Company in the event of accident or injury up to 50% of initial Vetting; as long as gross negligence did not occur. This does not include medications or follow-ups. Blixt and Company Owners and Dog Captain will have the final word on cases.
