Service Learning Coordinator
Position Overview
Compass Community Schools - Midtown seeks a Service Learning Coordinator for the 2024-2025 school year. The Service Learning Coordinator will support teachers' efforts to provide students with consistently high-quality Service Learning coursework and experiences. This is an exciting opportunity for a talented and committed educational leader to prepare Memphis youth both academically and to be agents of change in their community.
Primary Responsibilities
- Foster a school community that focuses on three pillars - Academic Excellence, Values Based Character Education, and Service Learning in the community - to prepare students for college and life-long success.
- Claim ownership of the school’s service learning pillar and the privilege and responsibility to ensure high levels of student academic learning and values- based character education through service learning.
- Develop a supportive, joyful, and hopeful school culture that has high expectations for students' individual and collective success.
- Collaborate with school and network leadership to manage and develop curriculum for leveled, schoolwide Service Learning courses (Capstone).
- Support teachers and staff in internalizing and facilitating Capstone lessons and experiences.
- Own the day-to-day process of supporting the schoolwide service learning identity by managing procedures and routines, communicating with stakeholders, supporting students individually and in small groups, and observing Capstone courses and experiences.
- Provide in-depth support, feedback, and coaching to teachers as they implement Capstone curriculum and facilitate service learning.
- Provide high-quality programming to support the implementation of the school’s core values.
- Model best practices by teaching model service learning lessons.
- Other duties as assigned by the principal.
Qualifications
- Affinity with, and passion for, the compelling vision of Compass Community Schools
- Proven success in raising academic achievement for all students and implementing experiential learning.
- Ability to lead a team towards high performance levels in pursuit of the Compass vision.
- Strong ability to plan strategically and then execute these plans with attention to detail.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the capacity to engage, inspire, and motivate colleagues.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with ability to build productive relationships with teammates.
- Desire to work hard in a balanced, extended school calendar
- Utmost personal and professional integrity
- Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited four-year institution; advanced degree preferred
- At least five years of teaching experience and leadership experience preferred.
