POSITION SUMMARY:
The Peer Specialist/Advocate will provide strengths-based guidance and substance use recovery supports to patients to motivate and assist them to fully engage in medication-assisted opioid treatment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Participate in outreach to individuals in treatment and those considering treatment.
Co-facilitate weekly orientation group to assist new patients in acclimating to the opioid treatment program, and follow up with those new patients for a set period of time.
Motivate new patients to attend the opioid treatment program as recommended; counsel patients on stopping/reducing substance use and/or reducing the risks associated with addictive behaviors.
Participate in outreach to existing patients who are struggling in medication-assisted treatment.
Facilitate recovery-focused discussion in informal peer groups.
Promote self-advocacy and identify community resources that support patients’ goals and interests and share them with patients under the supervision of the Peer Supervisor.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education, Experience and Skills Required:
- High School diploma or GED.
- At least two (2) years’ work experience or volunteer experience as a peer advocate in a recovery-oriented setting.
- Knowledge of substance use disorder recovery process.
- Computer literacy.
- Commitment to recovery-oriented systems of care.
- Ability to work independently.
- Excellent time management.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
- Experience working directly with people from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds.
- Experience with advocacy, outreach and engagement, and self-help.
- Knowledge of Evidenced Based Practices (Motivational Interviewing, Contingency Management)
License/Certification Required:
- Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA) or Certified Recovery Peer Advocate –Provisional (CRPA-P)
Preferred Education, Certification, Experience and/or Skills:
- Experience with medication-assisted treatment and opioid treatment programs highly preferred
- Bi-lingual Spanish preferred
- EMR experience.
Job Type: 2 part-time positions available, 7:00am – 3:00pm, 3 days per week.
