Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (Pediatrics experience encouraged), Full-time or Part-time

Summary:
The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will provide specialized, comprehensive psychiatric care to patients across the lifespan with mental health disorders. As a Psych NP, your role will involve assessing patients, developing care plans, and providing therapeutic interventions. The Psych NP will work with identified individuals who are experiencing acute and severe mental health conditions within the at risk, underserved communities.
Responsibilities:
- Complete initial new patient evaluations and develop treatment plans with patients you follow long-term
- Review medical history and related documents; select and interpret psychological tests when appropriate; order laboratory tests and evaluate results.
- Maintain interdisciplinary treatment by consulting and collaborating with primary care physicians, mental health therapists and other health care providers.
- Maintain electronic medical records by documenting symptoms, medications, and treatment events
- Update job knowledge by participating in continuing medical educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
- Consult with patient collateral contacts when appropriate (prior psychiatrists, family members)
- Electronically prescribe medications
- Data tracking: Assignment of appropriate assessment scales, and review with patient during appointments
- Communicate directly with patients regarding urgent needs (i.e. medication side effects, acute symptoms)
- Treat patients with a broad range of psychiatric illnesses
- Must be comfortable prescribing controlled substances when medically appropriate
- Develop and recommend treatment plans based on patient needs and diagnosis
- Complete all necessary clinical documentation in an accurate and timely manner
- Develop diagnosis and treatment plans that are integrated with the medical treatment plan, if applicable
- Provide therapeutic interventions when behavioral health issues arise during a medical clinic visit
- Performs crisis interventions as needed including but not limited to conducting suicide assessments and make recommendations to medical providers and patients; determine if crisis response services are appropriate for patient safety
- Works in collaboration with the Clinical Administrator, Clinical Director, Medical Director and other clinical staff to develop, establish, and optimize, and implement clinical protocols, and procedures
- Participates in developing mental health procedures within underserved populations
- Attend monthly provider meetings
- Stays in compliance with all HIPAA regulations
Skills / Qualifications / Education:
- 3+ years as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with experience with mental health assessment, diagnosis, triage, managing common psychiatric medication and treatment plans and managing crisis
- Spanish speaking preferred but not required
- Pediatric experience is a plus
- An unrestricted license and valid DEA number in the state of California
- Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)
- Registration with state Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP)
- No suspension/exclusion/debarment from participation in federal healthcare programs (e.g., Medicare, Medicaid, SCHIP)
- No adverse actions by any nursing board, hospital or other credentialing body in the past 3 years
- A master's or doctoral degree from an accredited university or graduate program in psychiatric mental health nursing
- The ability to provide telehealth
- Passion for patient care
- Proficient with technology and the use of EHR systems
