The Guild For Exceptional Children In Bay Ridge, Brooklyn is seeking a Temporary to Permanent Maintenance Staff Person. Driver Required. GEC seeks a self-motivated maintenance staff that will assist with the maintenance and repair of GEC physical premises, equipment, and systems. Maintenance staff should be able to make facility repairs that do not require a licensed craftsman.
Ability to perform general plumbing
1. Replacing, faucets, sinks, piping.
2. Repairing and replacing drain lines.
3. Clearing out internal drain lines (sinks and toilets).
4. Removing and re-seating toilet bowls when necessary to clear drain line.
5. Replacing toilet bowl components, valves, floats, flushometers etc.
6. Repairing water damage to areas under sink, around sink etc.
7. Drain and keep track of boiler maintenance.
Ability to perform general electrical work
1. Replacing outlets and switches.
2. Re-setting circuit breakers/ replacing fuses.
3. Replacing facility lighting fixtures and bulbs etc.
4. Repair/replace door bells.
5. Replace/install light fixture ballast’s.
Ability to perform general carpentry
1. Repairs banisters.
2. Maintaining, repairing and replacing door, frames, hardware including hinges, locks, doorstops, strike plates etc.
3. Repairing/installing shelves.
4. Maintaining windows ensuring that they open and close properly, are properly caulked and that any cracked or damaged panes are appropriately replaced.
Ability to perform general painting
1. Painting, taping, Sheetrock work.
2. Re-finishing cabinets and doors.
3. Pressure washing and water proofing/refinishing decks and patios.
4. Thoro-sealing exterior surfaces of buildings.
Ability to perform general exterior work
1. Sweeping off roofs and cleaning out gutters, clearing roof drains.
2. Emergency patch work for roof until roofing contractor can respond.
3. Repairing leaders and gutters, cleaning out and repairing downspouts.
4. Small scale concrete patch work.
5. Maintaining exterior doors ensuring that they operate properly and that they are appropriately sealed and caulked.
Ability to perform seasonal work
1. Installing and removing air conditioners, ensuring that they are working properly upon installation and properly stored upon removal.
2. Snow removal and salting.
3. Sweeping leaves.
Ability to perform general moving & assembly
1. Assemble sheds, barbecue grills, furniture, tents, and office furniture.
2. Moves furniture, equipment, and boxes, etc. (up to 50 lbs.) as needed.
Ability to perform general tiling
1. Replacing ceiling tiles.
2. Replacing vinyl floor tiles.
3. Ensuring that bathroom stalls and fixtures are kept in good repair and are clean and graffiti free.
4. Remove graffiti, debris from exterior walls and buildings.
Safety & security responsibilities
1. Provides general security when needed as requested.
2. Practices preventative maintenance and notifies management of any issues.
3. Assisting with monthly fire alarms.
4. Assisting with all building inspections. (fire, sprinkler, elevator)
5. Keeping basements in proper order and up to code for fire department regulations/inspections.
6. Ensuring all buildings are safe for service recipients in our care.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
