Job Title: Employment Specialist

JOB SCOPE: This is a direct service position requiring specific knowledge of mental health, and skills in crisis intervention and stabilization. The Employment Specialist will assess job readiness for all ACT clients, and provide placement assistance and job counseling for those determined to be job ready. The Employment Specialist will also assists with any barriers to obtaining employment, and provides assistance through all phases of vocational services. As part of the ACT you must be willing to go out into the community to provide services. This position requires clinical experience, and the desire to work as part of a team. Interacts with primary counselor on problems that arise with clients in the job placement phase of the program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Conducts daily visits in the community, and subsequent progress notes and other required documentation in accordance with agency and OMH standards.
- Completes Wellness Plans, Comprehensive Assessments and other documentation as required.
- Participates in daily morning meeting, and informs ACT team in daily meetings and weekly clinical meetings around vocational issues and incorporate findings into service plans.
- Provides educational, vocational, and employment support services to individuals with serious mental illness, including identifying education and employment interests and skills; finding, enrolling, and supporting participation in educational/ vocational programs; preparing for and finding employment; job coaching and social skills training; developing and sustaining relationships with employers and other vocational/educational support agencies; and educating employers about serious mental illness.
- Performs other duties, consistent with the goals and objectives of the program, as directed by Team Leader.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Experience in training and/or experience in vocational assessment, job exploration, and skills development in choosing, getting, and maintaining employment, employment counseling or vocational rehabilitation.
- Experience understanding various evidence-based models and theories pertaining to psycho-education, motivational interviewing, serious mental illness and recovery.
- Knowledge and experience of electronic health records (specifically AWARDS by Footholds) preferred.
- Must be reliable and able to work independently and understand the importance of maintaining confidentiality.
- Ensure progress notes are completed within 24-hours of the delivery of the service and are available to be read in the daily organizational meeting.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Master’s Degree required.
- At least one year of experience working in human services with individuals with serious mental illness.
- Must be outcome oriented in a fast-paced environment with deadlines.
Salary: $50,000-$58,000 Yearly
Scheduled Shift: Monday- Friday 9am to 5pm
