Onyx Behavioral Health LLC is a 33-bed residential mental health treatment center located in Port St Lucie FL, providing treatment and support for mental health disorders.
We are looking for experienced Mental Health technicians to join our Operations Team.
We're currently filling the following openings:
- Part-time weekends day shift (7am-7pm). or every other weekend.
- Full-time overnights (7pm-7am) - Must be willing to work weekends.
Position Purpose:
The Mental Health Technician is a paraprofessional healthcare employee who provides direct patient care and observation for mental health patients under the direction and supervision of the Director of Operations. This is an integral part of the multi-disciplinary team who provides standard and routine non-clinical support services as part of the overall plan of care within the operations standards and policies and procedures of the facility.
Job Qualifications:
- 2 years' experience in a residential or inpatient mental health treatment program, preferred.
- Experience with mental health disorders
- Experience with PTSD care, Trauma care, Veterans, and First Responders, preferred.
- High School Diploma or GED, required. MUST be verifiable.
- Valid Driver's License, required.
- Proficient at Microsoft Office365 Suite, preferred.
- Knowledge of KIPU EMR is a plus but will train.
- AHCA Level II Screening required.
- Drug screen required, safety sensitive position.
- CPR/First Aid certification required within 30 days of hire.
- Weekend availability required.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides continuous patient care, direct observation/supervision, interaction, and positive role modeling to the patients in a manner that promotes safety and therapeutic treatment.
- Works with other members of a multi-disciplinary team in facilitating milieu activities such as community meetings, goals, recreational activities as appropriate to the specified patient population.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADL) and promotes hygiene, nutrition, rest, and exercise.
- Ability to respond to patients with empathy and with positive interpersonal skills.
- Recognizes potential escalation of behavior and can use appropriate and effective de-escalation skills.
- Ability to react calmly and therapeutically in a crisis situation.
- Knowledge of potential risks and safety precautions in the care of mental health patients including conducting observation checks according to policy and procedure.
- Reports patient status, issues, concerns, and behavioral changes of the patient to the clinical or nursing team.
- Maintains patient confidentiality and is compliant with HIPAA requirements.
- Serves as a role model providing structure and guidance to patients in positive ways.
- Exhibits organizational ability, sound judgment and initiative.
- Interacts positively and effectively with patients, family members and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
- Attends staff meetings, training, in-service presentations and completes all mandatory education requirements.
- Provide a daily report on the rounds made that shift, to the Lead BHT and attend report meeting at the end of a shift with nurses and BHT’s.
- Practices and maintains confidentiality of patient information and facility activities, adhering to relevant HIPAA regulations.
- Work with and in consultation with licensed clinical and medical staff as part of multi-disciplinary team.
- Observe patient behavior, address any concerns, and report non-compliance of program rules to appropriate party.
- Observe patients during med pass with nursing staff, ensuring compliance to program rules.
- Leads recreational activities and ensuring safety of patients during these activities.
- Provide administrative support to clinical staff, i.e., create and update ROIs in KIPU, update emergency contact, obtain signatures for treatment plans, etc.
- Assists clinical and nursing personnel in providing direct services to assigned population such as: health data collection; observations of behaviors and activities of daily living; activities of daily living including prompting, education, and support.
- Obtains and records vital signs and may participate in specific treatment interventions such as coping skills, anger management, and other self-regulating behavior.
- Compliant with assigned schedule and time and attendance policy
- Performs other duties as assigned or directed.
