As a Controller reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), you will play a critical role in managing the accounting activities of our $350M e-commerce enterprise. You will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting management, exceptional leadership skills, and a proven track record of driving results in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Develop and maintain comprehensive budgets and financial forecasts to support strategic planning initiatives. Monitor variances and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Cash Management: Manage cash flow and liquidity to support day-to-day operations and strategic investments. Implement effective cash management policies and procedures to optimize working capital.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP standards. Provide insights and recommendations to the CFO for improving financial performance.
- Internal Controls: Establish and maintain robust internal controls to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and safeguard company assets. Continuously assess and improve internal control processes to mitigate risks.
- Tax Compliance: Oversee tax planning and compliance activities, including the preparation and filing of tax returns. Coordinate with external tax advisors to optimize tax efficiency and minimize liabilities.
- Audit Management: Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors during financial audits. Coordinate audit activities, address inquiries, and ensure timely completion of audit deliverables.
- Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of accounting professionals to ensure high performance and accountability. Foster a culture of continuous learning and development within the finance department.

Education and Certifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration required
- Certified Public Accountant preferred
Experience
- Previously worked at Direct to consumer (D2C) and/or e-commerce company
- 8+ years of progressive experience and at least 5+ years in a senior leadership role (Director or above)
- Experience in a lead accounting function at a pre-IPO company preferred
- Previous M&A experience
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong technical knowledge of GAAP principles, financial reporting requirements, and internal controls.
- Experience in e-commerce or retail industries preferred, with a deep understanding of direct-to-consumer business models.
- Proficiency in financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting techniques.
- Advanced proficiency in ERP systems, with specific expertise in NetSuite.
- Strong communication skills with a proven ability to effectively communicate to various audiences
- Multi-tasking and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
- Proven leadership abilities with a track record of building and developing high-performing teams.
- Comfortable with autonomy and is self-motivated
- Ability to use a personal computer. Proficiency with other Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language in a business environment
