TITLE:PET/CT Technologist
BASIC FUNCTION: Position is responsible for performing routine coordination all PET/CT diagnostic radiologic exams; ensures technical quality and timely transfer of data.
Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development as it relates to the different life cycles.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Graduate of an accredited school of Nuclear Medicine Technology.
2. TDH certified or temp TDH, up to 6 months.
3. Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist by the American Registry of Radiation Therapy Technologists and/or CNMT, OR temporary certification for recent graduates, up to 60 days post-graduation.
4. Completion or eligible for the ARRT and/or CNMT Registry examination in Nuclear Medicine.
5. Employee must be in good standing with all required licensure.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Administers Radioactive Tracer (F18 FDG) as well as I.V. contrast.
Starts IVs and administers F18 FDG and contrast according to policy and procedure as prescribed by the physician. Obtains consent (if having Diagnostic C.T.) and screens patients for past history of allergies and contraindications to contrast media prior to administering contrast. Screen patients for previous medical history (surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy) for PET imaging. Documents allergies, contraindications, IV contrast administration, etc. in medical record. Sharps are disposed into a lead lined container according to the NRC guidelines. Maintains a working knowledge of side-effects and allergic reactions to contrast media and alerts physician immediately upon occurrence.
2. Perform and maintain quality control procedures for PET imaging.
Performs daily dose calibrator constancy as well as quarterly linearity testing. Maintains records of constancy, linearity, accuracy and geometry testing.(Physicist performs accuracy and geometry testing annually). Perform and maintain records of the glucometer testing for blood sugar levels for PET imaging. Record and maintain F18 FDG activity injected into patient for PET imaging. Performs area wipes and surveys on specific sites in the PET department. Surveys and records radioactivity of F18 FDG from Radiopharmacy for patient utilization. Surveys and records activity of empty F18 FDG syringe, which is sent back to radiopharmacy.
3. Performs functional imaging(PET/CT) scans for diagnostic purpose.
Positions and scans patient according to whole body imaging protocol. Transfers films or images to radiologist for interpretation after scan is complete. Accurately charges patient according to guidelines immediately following procedure.
