We are an ever-growing food bank based in Latham, NY and Cornwall on Hudson. One of our sole missions is to #alleviatehunger! In 2023, we distributed over 48 million pounds, which equated to 40 million meals, to our neighbors who live within our 23-county NYS footprint. We often go the extra mile to ensure that individuals who need food receive it and we are currently growing to make sure that we reach as many people as possible. Overview: We are seeking a passionate and dynamic individual to join our team as a Community Engagement Manager in the Hudson Valley Region. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to engage and mobilize our community in the fight against hunger. You will work closely with internal teams, community partners, and volunteers to raise awareness, foster collaboration, and drive impact in our efforts to alleviate food insecurity.
Key Responsibilities:
Community Outreach and Relationship Building:
Develop and maintain relationships with community organizations, local businesses, faith-based groups, schools, and other stakeholders to promote collaboration and engagement in hunger relief efforts.
Identify opportunities for partnership and collaboration to expand the reach and impact of our programs and services.
Represent the organization at community events, meetings, and conferences to raise awareness of food insecurity and our mission.
Volunteer Management:
Recruit volunteers to support various aspects of food bank operations, including food distribution at our facility and our partner facilities and community outreach activities.
Provide ongoing support and guidance to volunteers, serving as a primary point of contact for inquiries and assistance.
Public Awareness and Education:
Develop and implement public awareness campaigns, outreach materials, and educational resources to increase understanding of food insecurity issues and promote engagement in hunger relief efforts.
Organize and facilitate community workshops, presentations, and training sessions on topics related to food access, nutrition, and poverty alleviation.
Collaborate with marketing and communications teams to leverage media opportunities and digital platforms to amplify our message and reach a broader audience.
Advocacy and Policy Engagement:
Monitor legislative and policy developments related to hunger relief, food access, and poverty alleviation at the local, state, and federal levels.
Engage community members and partners in advocacy efforts to promote policies and initiatives that address the root causes of food insecurity and promote equitable access to nutritious food.
Collaborate with advocacy organizations and coalitions to amplify our voice and influence policy change.
Community Events:
Plan, coordinate, attend, and execute community events, food drives to generate support and resources for our programs and initiatives.
Our ideal team member has a combination of:
Associate’s degree in nonprofit management, public health, social work, or related field, preferred.
Passion for social justice, hunger relief, and community empowerment, with a commitment to advancing equity and inclusion in all aspects of work.
Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in community engagement, volunteer management, or nonprofit leadership roles.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders and foster collaboration.
Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Knowledge of hunger relief issues, food banking operations, and nonprofit sector best practices is desirable.
