As a Property Accountant, you’ll be the financial backbone for a portfolio of 6-10 residential real estate and HUD housing properties. You’ll ensure these properties stay financially healthy and compliant, directly contributing to the stability and growth of our organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounting Management:
- Manage all accounting activities for residential properties from start to finish.
- Ensure our books are closed accurately and on time every month and year.
- Reconcile bank statements and accounts to maintain accurate records.
Financial Reporting:
- Prepare and review financial statements and reports that tell the story of our financial health.
- Dive into financial data to find ways we can be more profitable and efficient.
- Help set our financial direction by assisting with annual budgets and forecasts.
- Create and manage support schedules to ensure all financial data is accurately tracked.
Collaboration and Support:
- Work closely with property managers, providing them with the financial information they need.
- Support and coach the accounts payable team to ensure smooth operations.
- Represent our company in communications with third parties.
Compliance and Standards:
- Follow GAAP and our company-specific accounting rules to keep us compliant.
- Ensure all financial activities meet relevant regulations and standards.
- Handle monthly accruals to ensure expenses are recorded in the correct period.
Additional Tasks:
- Take on other tasks assigned by management, helping wherever needed.
Qualifications:
Must-Have:
- Hold a bachelor’s degree in accounting
- 2-4 years' experience in real estate accounting
- Strong grasp of accounting principles and practices
- Competence in financial analysis, especially in the context of residential properties
- Comfortable with essential computer tools, notably Excel
- Unwavering focus on details and organization
- Clear and effective communication skills, both written and verbal
- Team-oriented with a collaborative mindset
- Ability to meet tight deadlines accurately
Nice-to-Have:
- Experience in affordable housing.
-Familiarity with RealPage or similar software.
-Efficient in Microsoft Excel
