Description
Sheridan School is seeking a full-time BSN/RN school nurse, licensed in DC, to begin as soon as possible, no later than August 19, 2024. The school nurse provides direct medical care to students, faculty, and staff as needed, administers medications, maintains student health records as mandated by law, assists with health and wellness education for students, and partners with school administrators on the implementation and execution of health and safety policies to prevent and limit illness in our community. This is a year-round, full-time position that includes preparation for and support of our summer camp program. Hours are 8:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday - Friday. No nights or weekends.
Sheridan is a progressive, child-centered K-8 school in northwest Washington, DC, serving up to 230 children during the school year and hundreds of campers each summer. In addition to the duties above, the school nurse coordinates staff training for CPR/first aid and medication administration, schedules on-site flu and COVID vaccine clinics, coordinates with our experiential education leaders for trips to our Mountain Campus in Luray, Virginia, and serves as a liaison to local health officials (as needed).
Requirements
To succeed in this position, the school nurse must be:
- Knowledgeable about illnesses and conditions common to children
- Licensed in DC
- Skilled in first aid, treatment of minor injuries, and identification of illnesses
- Trained in diabetes care
- Organized and able to manage student health records and other data on digital platforms (experience with Magnus Health is a plus)
- Flexible in assisting with non-nursing duties as requested
- Organized and able to communicate with children, their families, and teachers (excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills)
- Committed to partnership with families, faculty, and staff to ensure a positive and healthy learning environment for children
