Outside Technical Sales Specialist located in Indianapolis, IN area
As an R. A. Ross & Associates Inc. Outside Technical Sales Specialist you will be utilizing your technical knowledge and experience to work with customers at their industrial plants and assist to provide creative and practical solutions for their vacuum pump, pneumatic blower, and other equipment/plant needs. You will enjoy learning firsthand how things are made and the various processes at the plants. You get to know your customers by visiting regularly and will build confidence as you assist them with the highly respected products we represent.
R.A. Ross & Associates Inc., a specialty process distributor, headquartered in Louisville, KY is seeking an experienced full-time Outside Technical Sales Specialist for the assigned territory of central/northern Indiana.
Job Summary: Growth and management of sales in assigned established territory.
Responsibilities:
- Field based position in assigned territory.
- Directly responsible for the sales revenue in the central/northern Indiana sales territory.
- Set up appointments (and make cold calls), then visit & work with plant maintenance, engineers, and other professionals at varied industrial manufacturers (and others) to satisfy process requirements for vacuum pump, pneumatic blowers, and other equipment/plant needs.
- Within existing successful central/northern Indiana territory, Sales Specialist will expand sales & broaden the customer base.
- Learn features/benefits of R. A. Ross & Associates Inc. product lines (and competitors) along with specific industry typical uses/applications. Includes monthly ½ day sales meetings with vendors; Attending supplier training at their locations and on-line; and working with supplier regional managers in the field; and learning by experience.
- Learn & understand basics and usage of vacuum pumps; pumps (seal-less, positive displacement, metering, diaphragm, centrifugal); mixers; filtration; pneumatic blowers; water/wastewater and other specialty products.
- Develop key account target list and monthly territory/account list of clients and potential clients in northern Ohio assigned territory. Plan, organize, and execute sales call schedule based on target accounts and potential order opportunities.
- Call and email clients (and potential clients) to set up daily appointments to meet at the client plant/location. Cold call, as needed, within specific territory for that day.
- Use good communication skills and an outgoing personality to meet and get to know decision makers and build customer relationships.
- While visiting the customer, document the needed equipment criteria, process conditions and all application details for inside sales to develop a proper proposal. Must be accurate and detail oriented.
- Using good follow-through skills, follow up on customer proposals (internally and externally) so response is timely, and orders are closed. Stay current on quote/potential order status. Weekly meeting with inside sales and/or management to discuss outstanding quotations awaiting orders and opportunities awaiting customers/vendors details.
Qualifications:
- Pump, vacuum pump, filter, or other technical equipment experience would be very helpful.
- 2-year Associate Degree in Engineering Technology, other Technical Education (or equivalent experience) with Mechanical aptitude.
- Ambitious, outgoing, focused, persistent, self-motivated self-starter with positive attitude able to effectively communicate, develop personal relationships and work independently.
- Proficiency with math, physics, chemistry, and mechanics to be able to help customers determine application details including Fluid/Gas Properties and Pressure Drop of liquids or gases in piping arrangements. Able to use formulas, curves, and tables to help determine the most appropriate product.
- Some professional work experience in industrial sales or industrial sales support very helpful.
- Assumes responsibility & accountability for assignments and tasks.
- Manages time effectively, focusing on urgent and important tasks.
- Valid driver's license, with reliable personal vehicle.
- Full-time field position with some overnight travel requirements.
- Computer skills including: Using Excel/Outlook/PowerPoint/Word. Utilizing mobile phone mileage software to document customer visits/business mileage and other expenses. Using CRM customer database software, documenting daily sales activity (phone, email, face to face contact…). Preparing/Delivering technical presentations to explain products or services to customers and prospective customers.
