General Summary
Provides virtual nursing care to a diverse population of patients by using remote monitoring technology software and related electronic health record. Works in partnership with the Clinical Nurse and in accordance with the principles of patient and family-centered care based on the nursing process and according to the clinical standards of the hospital. Coordinates care planning with other disciplines. Coaches and mentors novice nurses.

Essential Functions:
- Coaches and mentors the novice nurse in developing clinical reasoning skills.
- Independently, and in partnership with clinical nurse, recognizes subtle changes in condition and assists in modifying the plan of care accordingly. Initiates emergency action in response to acute risk situations. Responds in a timely way to alarms and communicates/reports abnormalities promptly to clinical nurse.
- Uses patient biometric, physiological, and vital sign data to provide and evaluate nursing care that promotes goal-directed change and will achieve optimal patient outcomes.
- Communicates changes in the patient’s condition and actual and potential problems concerning patients, families, and staff to the clinical nurse.
- Independently, and in partnership with clinical nurse, evaluates and monitors the effectiveness of interventions and progress toward outcomes for patients. Initiates interdisciplinary collaboration in evaluation of patient progress. Identifies and facilitates individualized patient needs for transfer/ discharge and includes patient/family in decisions.
- Documents in the electronic health record, and all event associated communications with highest quality.
- Maintains advanced knowledge of electronic health record and all associated software and applications. Able to trouble-shoot minor technical challenges after appropriate training.
- Begins reading current literature. Expresses interest in evidence-based research and its application to best practice. Understands clinical relevance and its impact on patient outcomes.
- Seeks learning opportunities and resources beyond own work environment and incorporates into practice the new knowledge and skills acquired. Required education and competencies completed. - In addition to requirements specified in the license and certification section below, current BLS certification for all areas of nursing practice is required.Current certification may be required for the following areas of nursing practice:Emergency Care Center – ACLS, PALSIntensive Care Center & MSCC Lead – ACLS, PALSL&D – ACLS, NRP, - Experienced L&D nurses will obtain within 6 months and new L&D nurses will obtain at 1 year of experienceNICU – NRPPEDS – PALSPCC/PACU/ENDO – ACLS, PALSProcedural – ACLS
