Job Summary
Provide front line technical support for division operations events involving potential or actual failures of electric and control systems. Identify and capture lessons learned in the form of, alerts, advisories, bulletins, recommended practices, PM task reviews and recommend policy improvements or change to provide continuous improvement to the company’s processes. Work with key manufacturers and engineering to; foster research and development of new products, technology and design improvements as well as new features and functionality. Work to ensure minimum safety and reliability standards are achieved, and the technological leadership of Transocean is maintained and recognized
Job Description
Duties:
Maintain and enforce company standards for the purchase, use, inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair, and modifications of company-owned electric and control systems intended for and in use on company rigs. Maximize operational safety, reliability, life-cycle, and life-cycle costs.
Provide front line support for electric and control system technical events that initiate from the rig level. Facilitate the interface between technical field support and engineering for the identification and corrective action plan to address issues identified in the field using the companies event management and troubleshooting process.
Evaluate OEM performance collaboratively with engineering and recommend either approval or disapproval of any OEMs for the service and supply of electric and control systems. Collaborate with supply chain to identify vendor improvement opportunities.
Participate and provide leadership as needed by responding to and investigating all reported real and potential failures of electric and control systems and identifying root causes. Ensure lessons learned are institutionalized in the company management system that will serve to prevent recurrence.
Review electric and control system operation history (TER) and maintenance failure data for corrective action to revise company management systems for procurement, inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and modifications of such equipment to maximize operational safety and rig efficiency.
Coach and mentor rig maintenance and technical supervisors on their roles and operational execution in maintaining electric and control systems onboard.
Participate and lead efforts to develop improvements in electric and control system design, manufacture, features, and functionality as well as best practices for inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair to extend the useful life and improve reliability. Advise of opportunities to improve these systems through electric and control system technology available in the industry and used in other industries to further improve the uptime of rig operations.
Develop and promote the protocols, systems and processes used within the Technical Field Support organization that develop advanced diagnostics, remote troubleshooting and visual collaboration for electric and control systems. Advise of opportunities to improve remote maintenance and troubleshooting through electric and control system technology that is available in the industry and used in other industries to further improve the uptime of rig operations.

Special Requirements:
Intimate knowledge of electric control system design, manufacturing, usage, troubleshooting, inspection, maintenance, and repair of electric and control systems such as power management systems, DP systems, power distribution, variable frequency drive systems, integrated drilling control systems, PLC (Siemens 5/7, GE, AB) hardware, programming and diagnostic software. Strong technical leadership and discipline to manage the downtime and event recovery process across operations, engineering, OEM and customer interfaces. Excellent diagnostic, technical writing, verbal and visual communication skills are required.
Additional Duties:
The position requires some offshore travel to rigs.
In regulated areas there are often requirements that drive having a technical authority available as a resource for highly regulated equipment requirements and additional requirements for Emergency Response amongst others.
