Under the supervision of the Director III - Services for Exceptional Children, the Occupational Therapist is responsible for providing educationally relevant diagnostic and therapy services to eligible students and serving as a multidisciplinary team member.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure all necessary documentation, including physicians orders, evaluations, and school records, are in place and reviewed.
- Create and maintain a weekly work schedule.
- Coordinate contracted services for Occupational Therapy.
- Manage equipment inventory and recommend necessary purchases.
- Maintain records of student and therapist attendance at therapy sessions.
- Prepare Medicaid reports.
- Conduct diagnostic evaluations and present results at multidisciplinary meetings.
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to determine eligibility for special education services.
- Develop annual goals and objectives for students qualifying for occupational therapy services.
- Monitor student progress and adjust programming as needed.
- Participate in team meetings and staffing as directed.
- Provide consultation and in-service training to staff, parents, and professionals.
- Offer technical assistance and supervision to Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTAs), if applicable.
- Adhere to all policies and procedures established by Decatur Public Schools.
- Cultivate effective working relationships with staff members.
- Represent Decatur Public Schools in a professional manner.
- Maintain confidentiality of information and demonstrate ethical behavior.
- Commit to professional growth and development.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Hold a Masters degree from an accredited training program approved by the American Occupational Therapy Association.
- Hold or be eligible for a current Georgia license to practice as an occupational therapist.
