Job Purpose
The UT Operator shall operate and assist in the functions UT testing of pipe material in accordance with plant policies and procedures. He/she will ensure a safe and compliant operation during his/her shift.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Daily operation of in-line UT inspection equipment.
- Reporting of all Non-conformances and any potential quality issues.
- Helping problem solve any quality issues on line.
- The secondary function is to perform all daily prove-up on rejected material.
- Current knowledge and understanding of all relevant SeAH SOP’s
- Perform all applicable inspection functions to the requirements of ASNT SNT-TC-1A and API.
- Separate pipe that needs further evaluation (prove-up) ensuring material is properly segregated.
- Operation Monitoring - Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
- Review work orders and specifications to determine materials needed to be processed.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Detection of defects which are inherent to various steel making and pipe manufacturing processes.
- Conduct inspection to ensure quality, detect discontinuities using ultrasonic equipment.
- Accurate process of paperwork and test results.
- Determine if pipe does/does not meet SeAH specifications.
- Report any discrepancies in reports to QC Auditor / Mill Supervisor.
- Ensure proper procedures and paperwork is being used and utilized.
• Other duties as assigned. Qualifications / Competencies • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.
- Training in Ultra Sonics and Quality. Must have a Level 1 or Level 2 UT certification.
• Ability to multi-task • Good arithmetic skills are required. • Mechanical aptitude desired
- 2 years’ Quality Control experience is preferred.
- Manual dexterity required for operating machinery, hand tools and handheld technical devices.
- Knowledge of the manufacturing processes, procedures, and welding operation.
- General proficiency of Microsoft Excel, Word and Databases, Track-Pro System (is preferred) Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
- Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment.
- Loose-fitting clothes and jewelry are not permitted on site.
- Must be able to stand on feet for a minimum of 8 hours and lift 50lbs.
- The ability to lift 25/50 pounds regularly.
- The ability to respond quickly to sounds.
- The ability to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces.
- The ability to see and respond to dangerous situations.
- The ability to safely climb ladders while carrying 40 pounds
- The ability to work in loud, hot environments/extreme weather while wearing required PPE.
- Ability to see 20-20 when corrected.
- Ability to identify and distinguish colors.
