Job Description
The Financial Controller at Cayaba Care will lead and oversee accounting and critical finance processes including tax and treasury management. Responsibilities include managing accounting, tax, financial reporting, billing, payments, analyzing market trends, and implementing cost-effective strategies. This role will also advise the CEO, Fractional CFO, and other key members of senior management on financial planning, budgeting, cash flow, investment priorities, and policy matters. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you'll play a key role in fundraising, investor relations, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations. Strong accounting, financial modeling skills and a background in healthcare finance are essential for this role.
Candidate Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the CEO and Fractional CFO to set financial goals for the company and to help define strategy to achieve goals and to support venture capital fundraising
- Collaborate with the Head of People to create policies, procedures and compensation structures and to book payroll
- Establish financial operations and guidelines for each company department
- Oversee company tax and compliance with various regulations and legislation
- Oversee accounting, tax contractors, and future finance team members as applicable
- Manage banking relationships
- Ensure the company adheres to tax laws and industry regulations
- Support budget and forecast preparation including the review of key performance indicators that will guide the company's financial decision-making
- Advise on business deals that may affect profits
- Prepare monthly consolidated financial statements for internal and external stakeholders including metrics.
- Oversee all financial transactions (Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, etc.)
- Manage business insurance and oversee insurance coverage for the company
- Monitor policies and limits to ensure contractual obligations are met
- Manage audit and tax activities
- Identify inefficiencies in company systems and advising on overcoming them to use resources more efficiently
What we’re looking for:
- Healthcare Industry Knowledge: In-depth understanding of the maternal healthcare sector, including regulatory frameworks, reimbursement models, and industry trends
- Financial Reporting and Compliance: Understanding of compliance with healthcare regulations and maintaining transparency in financial operations
- Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A): Proficiency in supporting development of comprehensive financial plans, forecasting, and budgeting tailored to the unique needs of a healthcare startup
- Risk Management: Proven expertise in identifying and mitigating financial risks specific to the healthcare domain, ensuring compliance with industry regulations
- Collaboration and Communication: Effective collaboration with cross-functional teams, as well as clear and concise communication of financial strategies and performance to non-finance stakeholders
- Technology Proficiency: Familiarity with financial systems and technologies relevant to healthcare finance, ensuring efficient and accurate financial operations
- Change Management: Adaptability to the dynamic nature of a startup environment, with the ability to lead and manage financial changes effectively
Candidate Qualifications:
- Education: A minimum of a bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field is typically required
- Professional Certification: Professional certifications such as CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst)
- Experience: 8-10 years of progressive experience in finance and accounting
Additional, nice to haves:
- An MBA or advanced degree
- Experience with QuickBooks Online, Bill.com, Expensify, and Carta
- Experience in a financial leadership role
- Previous experience in a healthcare startup or relevant industry
