MAIN PURPOSE: The Senior Geotechnical Engineer is a proven leader who provides geotechnical expertise and support to the mining operation on issues of rock mechanics and ground control.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES/ACTIVITIES:

Lead team of geotechnical engineers, providing guidance and mentorship while promoting a high standard of safety

Update and maintain the site Ground Control Management Plan and Crown Pillar Management Plan

Perform inspections of underground excavations and provide recommendations on ground control and mitigation of ground issues, as required

Provide guidance and coaching to short-term planning to ensure alignment to longer term goals pertaining to stability of underground workings
-
Provide guidance to long-term planners on stope sizing, offset distances, mine sequencing, and general geotechnical recommendations to be included in Life of Mine design
-
Build and interpret results of 3D stress models as required to inform ground support design, re-entry protocols, mine sequencing, and mine design
-
Ensure the completion of quality control testing of ground support and backfill is completed in accordance with the Ground Control Management Plan
-
Manage geotechnical instrumentation systems and associated Trigger Action Response Plans
EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Geological Engineering, Mining Engineering, or similar field

8-10 years of direct experience in mining operations

Strong understanding of the functions carried out by the geotechnical, geological, and mining engineering departments

Strong understanding of underground mine design and planning
-
A thorough understanding of rock mechanics and underground support systems

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Map3D, Deswik, RocScience, and Leapfrog

Experience in underground hard rock mining is preferred
