We are looking for an experienced and confident Grain Operations Manager to join our team located at our Reynolds, IN manufacturing facility. This position will report to the Business Unit Manager and be responsible for managing all aspects of grain receiving, cleaning, handling and quality within the plant. This position will also manage the grain side of scheduling, work heavily in the ERP system, and oversee daily operating team while reinforcing company policies with emphasis on safety and quality.
Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Ensure that all trucks and/or railcars are correctly received at the facility.
- Accurately and completely process all paperwork for inbound trucks and railcars.
- Quality control – ensure that all products are received in good condition.
- Maintain accurate database records.
- Maintain and audit formulas in mixing system.
- Create inventory releases for tallow and mineral oil.
- Monitor 3rd Party warehouses where grain and specialty food inventory is stored.
- Conduct general safety and sanitation practices.
- Assist in inventory of bulk ingredients.
- Actively plan, deploy and advise necessary actions to meet the Corporate Scorecard and Performance goals.
- Develop and implement strategies to increase productivity and production rates.
- Maintain a safe work environment, driving safety programs, practices and training in accordance with company policy and applicable state and federal laws.
- Troubleshoot errors/mistakes and quickly implement error proofing techniques.
- Track actual performance versus budget for production, projects and costs.
- Look for, develop and promote a Continuous Improvement philosophy throughout the plant, and implement process improvements.
- Implement Lean Manufacturing and train associates with these principles, as well as other GMP’s.
- Utilize software/data/system capabilities and recommend improvements.
- Coordinate overtime and use of temporary employees when necessary.
- Communicate company plans, policies and procedures to employees on a regular basis.
- Interact with employees, customers and vendors in-person and on the telephone in a courteous and professional manner as needed.
- Perform frequent inspections and audits of the work processes.
- Follow and adhere to all city, state, federal and company enforced policies, procedures, and regulations.
Food Safety Responsibilities
- Ensure that all ingredients appear to be free from contamination.
- Ensure that the scales used have been calibrated each morning.
- Ensure the proper specifications are met with each product.
- Verify that all records are updated on the server and all documents are complete.
- Follow appropriate procedures for clearing the rail cars that have been fumigated.
- Assist with and support BRC audits, as well as prompt findings/action closure.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university is preferred and 6-8 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 10 years of manufacturing and 5 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment and working with packaging equipment.
- Basic accounting knowledge and the ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Safety and OSHA training required.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing.
- Multi-lingual in English and Spanish preferred.
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the business community.
- Ability to write technical documentation and training/procedural documentation.
- Must maintain the utmost confidentiality in all communication within and outside the company.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Explorer and Outlook.
- Previous experience working with ERP systems a plus.
