Looking for a f/t or p/t highly motivated individuals who have a passion for helping people with mental health issues to work in a primary community mental health inpatient facility. Under the direction of the program manager and clinical director, the Peer Support Specialist will provide outreach, one-on-one, and group-level peer support, guidance, motivation, and accountability to clients. The Peer Support Specialist will serve as a key resource, role model, and a mentor for positive and healthy personal development. This position will work in a residential facility and in partnership with other His House departments and other agencies and organizations. This role does require a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends. The Peer Support Specialist may also provide additional support and services within other programs under His House New Creation or collaborating departments.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Engage individuals in one-on-one and group support settings.
- Utilize evidence-based and culturally relevant practices while working with clients, with an emphasis on skills building, personal achievement, goal setting, stress management, leadership, mental and physical well-being, drug intervention and suicide awareness and prevention;
- Attend staff meetings;
- Maintain the safety and confidentiality of clients;
- Set clear boundaries for their relationships with clients;
- Take clients to meetings;
- Reading, writing, and carrying out direction;
- Charting or taking notes for others to review;
- Providing companionship and supportive listening;
- Reporting changes in the health or status of the client;
- Taking vitals, rounds, CIWAs and COWs;
- Responding to emergency situations;
- Observing medications during med times;
- Transporting client to appointments;
- Facilitating community and recreational outings, including transport;
- Providing support with hobbies, studies, and social activities;
- Perform related functions as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, CERTIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to plan, strategize and execute progress toward goal completion;

- Strong time-management and organizational skills;
- Must maintain ethical guidelines at all times;
- Knowledge of computers for data entry and periodic reporting;
- Ability to work well with other employees, department directors/managers, and other agencies;
- Ability to lift 20 pounds:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED (required)
- CALMHSA Certified Peer Support Specialist (required)
- 1 year as a mental health peer specialist or 1 year of experience equivalent to the mental health peer support specialist (preferred);
- Must pass pre-employment and random drug testing during employment.
- Must acknowledge and agree to maintain a Drug-Free workplace as a condition of employment with His House New Creation.
- Must be able to pass a background check.
- Must have a valid class "C" driver's license and have a clean driving record.
- CPR/First Aid certification required.
