In the Advanced Technology Laboratory’s (ATL) Special Warfare Division, we deliver the Navy’s most advanced undersea sensing and communications technologies.
This position will develop new undersea systems for the Navy by working with hardware-focused systems engineers to integrate software and hardware components into high performing, reliable systems. The employee will work with a technical team under project leadership to understand customer needs and to help design, implement, and field new systems.
We often build systems using sensor technologies alongside embedded computers running Linux-based operating systems. This position will help integrate all of these components into a working system usable by Navy operators.
Applicants will be expected to have a strong software background in order to be able to integrate software applications with custom hardware and user interfaces. There is a significant testing component to this position to ensure that the systems perform as required. Applicants should expect to travel in support of system development and demonstration (<15% time).

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in electrical/computer engineering, software engineering, systems engineering or related field
At least three years of demonstrated experience in systems engineering
Demonstrated ability to program in C++, Python, or shell scripting
Thorough understanding of software development and testing methodologies and techniques
Possess working-level understanding of Linux operating systems and administration
Ability to work with other system developers to produce the desired system
Ability to document and configuration manage developed systems
Ability to build good working relationships with people at all levels, and understand the needs of different stakeholders and communicate with them appropriately
US Citizen. Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the level appropriate to the project requirements of the position.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in systems or software engineering
Five or more years of experience in systems engineering
Experience leading a system engineering team
Experience with high-frequency SONAR or other underwater sensor systems
Prior military or defense system development experience
Experience working with classified information systems
Experience with open-source build tools and procedures in the Linux environment
