CFO/Controller
Bison Engineering, Inc., is a Montana-based 32 person, employee-owned environmental engineering firm with 44 years of experience in helping our clients comply with air quality regulations. We have two office locations in MT and one in AZ. We specialize in air quality permitting, emissions testing, ambient air monitoring, and gas flow monitor design and manufacture. We are looking for a Chief Financial Officer/Controller in our Helena, MT office. This position will be an advisor to the management team, different departments and office locations, evaluating and assisting them with their financial plans and operations. The CFO will be responsible for overseeing all fiscal and fiduciary responsibilities for the organization including HR and IT. This position reports directly to the President. This position requires in office work 4-5 days per week, remote work may be negotiable. The preferred location for this position is in Helena, Mt. However, the successful candidate must reside or be willing to relocate to a location within a reasonable commute to one of our offices located in Helena MT, Billings MT, or Tucson AZ.
Financial and Operational Management
· Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems, ensuring compliance with appropriate Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and regulatory requirements.
· Manage cash flow and forecasting. Maintain a cash flow projection process and handle banking relationships and initiate appropriate strategies to enhance cash positions.
· Oversee budgeting and the implementation of budgets so as to monitor progress and present financial metrics both internally and externally.
· Provide timely, accurate and complete financial reports to Management Team monthly and Board of Directors quarterly.
· Oversees and directs subcontractors responsible for payroll, HR, IT, and other administrative/corporate functions.
· Manage a team of 3-4 direct reports that handle accounting and office administrative functions.
· Acts as agent for the company in all banking and financing transactions. Establishes and maintain banking relationships and negotiates all debt instruments and covenants.
· Acts as Financial Advisor to the Bison ESOP, overseeing plan implementation, changes, investments, administration, valuation, and distributions; gives counsel to the ESOP Trustee.
· Acts as the Trustee and administers the Bison 401k and Section 125 Cafeteria Plans.
· Establishes and maintains corporate accounting, tax planning, and financial reporting practices and procedures in accordance with accepted standards and advises Management Team and the Board of Directors of changes in procedures or practices needed to maintain this standard and fulfill regulatory requirements.
· Screens several choices for each of the outside administrative consultants, and recommends to the President who shall be the firm's banker, legal counsel, insurance broker, etc. Develops and maintains sound relationships with selected financial institutions.
· Coordinates and secures general insurance policies for General Liability, Property, D&O, Auto, Umbrella, Professional, Workers Comp, etc. as needed and oversees any claims made against said policies.
Desired Skills and Experience
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or similar degree
· CPA or CGMA preferred but not required
· 7+ years of experience managing the finance function (accounting, budgeting, analysis and reporting)
· Experience with companies that sell time and measures utilization
· Strong analytical skills and experience interpreting financial data to inform operational changes.
· Ability to set and enforce fiscal policy in a conservative manner and provide sound fiscal advice on alternatives
· Ability to wear multiple hats and enjoys switching topics repeatedly and quickly in a fast-paced environment.
