The Community Outreach Coordinator is a member of the programs team and leads and assists with direct services to neighbors. The primary area of focus is SNAP Outreach and Google SNAP application assistance. This role requires frequent travel throughout the service area, working with partners and neighbors in various capacities. The position is responsible for the SNAP application process, including printing of applications, related outreach, and educational materials for partner agencies and participants.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
SNAP COORDINATOR
· Provides SNAP & Medicaid application assistance at various social service agencies, food pantries, and community meetings.
· Coordinates with local agencies including social service programs, food pantries, senior low-income apartments, Aging Matters, State offices, and community partners
· Provides information and help to individuals and families, program staff and volunteers based upon a comprehensive understanding of food resources and other available benefits.
· Remains up to date with changes in SNAP & MM benefits and shares knowledge with local partners and SEMO food bank staff.
· Attends monthly SNAP webinars and biannual meeting with Feeding Missouri SNAP leader.
· Works to meet submitted application goals.
· Travels regularly within the 16 counties served by Southeast Missouri Food Bank. Must be willing to work some nights and Saturdays.
· Represents SEMO Food Bank at County Area Resource Meetings as able.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH
· Assists in grant deliverables focused on community outreach and impact.
· Develop strategic alliances with key elected officials, community groups, neighborhood and business leaders, community residents, consumers and others.
· Document project progress and adapt work as required.
· Ensure projects meet deadlines.
· Manage relationships with partner and stakeholders.
· Conduct project review, maintain records of community engagement activities and create detailed reports for executive staff.
· Create and implement community outreach programs and initiatives.
· Lead and participate in eternal community outreach.
· Communicate with community members to understand their needs and expectations.
· Conduct surveys and feedback sessions to assess effectiveness of community programs and initiatives.
FOOD SAFETY
· Attends annual food safety training for food bank staff.
· Practices food safety policies to maintain an environment conducive to safe food handling and distribution.
· Assists in monitoring partner agencies for food safety and distribution compliance and other projects as assigned.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
· Computer literate – especially with Microsoft Excel and Word.
· Ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and opinions.
· Working in sometimes extreme weather/temperature conditions: some food pantries do not have air conditioning and some work is outside
· Able to work in fast paced environments.
· Must possess the physical, technical, and cognitive ability as well as the manual dexterity, to use patient care equipment.
· Must be able to work some Saturdays and weeknights
· Must have excellent written/oral communication skills.
· Must have a valid Missouri driver’s license and a good driving record.
· Experience working with non-profit community organizations and knowledge of hunger issues preferred.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From $18.00 per hour
