INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY NETWORK ADMINISTRATOR

The Information Technology Network Administrator helps the Agency achieve optimal use of their data networks by performing needs analysis, procurement support, installation, training, and problem resolution for the local and wide area networks. Responsible for configuration, operation, and administration of network server hardware, operating systems, phone systems and communications links, as well as maintaining written documentation of network topology. Evaluates, implements, and administrates non-LOB software solutions. Troubleshoots advanced technical problems. Work is performed under general supervision.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Analyzes Agency’s needs. Recommends appropriate network configurations to meet users’ needs and Agency standards.
- Implements and maintains routers, firewalls, switches, remote access devices, servers, UPS and other networked devices and connections across all Agency sites.
- Designs, configures, monitors, and optimizes local and wide area networks for optimal performance, maximum availability, data and network security, minimal maintenance, and reasonable costs. Performs preventative maintenance and fault isolation for the same.
- Designs, configures, and administrates Agency phone systems and communications links to best serve Agency needs.
- Research, evaluate, recommend, and implement new hardware, software and communication solutions for agency compatibility and suitability.
- Develops, maintains, and updates a library of technical documentation for the platforms supported by the position.
- Performs advanced diagnostics and maintenance on desktops, laptops or mobile devices when additional expertise is required.
- Coordinate and facilitate the training of IT personnel to develop advanced technical skills and knowledge of new implementations.
- Verify that backups are performed, periodically test backups for accuracy, and perform restore operations when requested.
- Keeps current on new developments and techniques in information technology.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
- Performs other related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Advance working knowledge of local and wide area networks, Windows Server 2016 and newer, Windows 10 and newer, Microsoft Office 365, and mobile device management.
- Strong troubleshooting skills as it relates in Networking, computer and mobile device hardware, and software applications.
- Possess effective interpersonal and communication skills to interact orally and in writing with a wide range of users having different levels of computer expertise.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma or equivalent, and at least 3 years of progressively responsible computer maintenance and networking management experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects, and some medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
- Visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arm’s length, operation of machines, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.
- The worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Valid Virginia driver's license: attends training and maintains certifications as required by the Agency and regulatory guidelines. Flexibility in schedule to work after hours and/or on weekends as needed.
