Applied Marketing Science, Inc. (AMS), a market research and consulting firm located Burlington, MA with approximately $15M in revenue, is currently seeking a dynamic and experienced Controller to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in process improvement and possess a strong understanding of various project tracking systems with a focus on scalability. Responsibilities will include:
- handling legal billing, managing retainers and collections
- Reviewing project budgets and confirming projected revenue recognition amounts with Account Managers each month
- Managing journal entries and reconciling accounts for monthly and annual closing
- Producing monthly financial packages for Leadership
- Overseeing payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank account and credit cards
- Processing all appropriate federal tax, state tax, use tax, 401(k) and Safe Harbor deposits
- Coordinating with outside agencies for annual tax preparation and financial reports
- Managing 401(k) plan, investments, documents, reporting and compliance
- Managing monthly and annual cash flow
- Working closely with project teams to provide insight into project budgets vs. actuals
- Assisting in the preparation of annual budgets
- Preparing annual censuses for 3rd party quotes
- Reviewing client contracts, engagement letters, statements of work and services agreements
- Managing vendor contracts, terms, and renewals
- Supporting continuous process improvements and appropriate process automation
- Serving as liaison with corporate travel agency
- Evaluating and coordinating annual insurance renewals
- Coordinating with IT Director and appropriate vendors to ensure IT compliance
- Providing support for client security assessments
- Coordinating training grants from application to reimbursement
- management of one Finance team member
Requirements:
- prior experience in professional services, law field highly desirable
- Advanced user of QuickBooks Desktop Pro
- Understanding of and experience with accrual accounting and GAAP
- Experience with project-based, revenue recognition accounting
- Advanced Excel (experience using pivot tables is helpful)
- Well-organized, detail oriented, superior problem-solver, collaborative with strong work ethic
- CPA certification is a plus
