Veterinary Technician - BLVD Vet
Boulevard Veterinary (Chicago, IL) is seeking Certified Veterinary Technicians or Veterinary Technicians with aspirations to become certified for full time employment in our AAHA accredited practice in River North! (Please note: for current position, we are most urgently looking for a candidate with experience in surgeries like dentals, spays, and neuters.) We are looking for someone who thrives in a fast paced environment, loves problem solving and leads with a helpful, "can-do" attitude. A dedication to teamwork and continuing education are a must. Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- 1+ year(s) experience as a veterinary technician and/or a CVT required
- Surgical technician experience preferred
- Current CVT Licensure preferred
- Fear Free Certification preferred
- Oncura Radiology Certification preferred

Training consists of being paired with 1 or 2 senior CVTs for 4 weeks to get accustomed to the protocols at BLVD Vet and ensure you have the skills you need to succeed. This is not a sink or swim culture - we want to set you up for success with individualized training and attention. What makes us different is we believe in allowing Veterinary Technicians to utilize all of their skills from running standard wellness exams, sick visits, to their skills in the surgical and dental suites each week, so they remain fresh in all of the valuable abilities they’ve honed over the years. Description & Responsibilities
Our ideal Veterinary Technician candidate is an individual with strong critical thinking and technical skills who works well in a fast paced environment. They are enthusiastic about learning and sharing new information in the veterinary industry, and don’t shy away from a challenge or puzzle. They are a team-player with compassion for pets and their humans even through the tough times we might see them through. Great communication skills are a must as we love having an open and positive team culture!
- Coordinating and efficiently executing treatment plans for patients during appointments based on veterinarian recommendations. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Canine and feline patient restraint, phlebotomy and husbandry.
- Assisting in physical exams
- Performing diagnostic tasks (venipuncture for lab work, cytologies, cystos, radiographs, etc)
- Effective and enthusiastic client education regarding rationale of wellness services, disease prevention and treatment protocols.
- Accurately updating all EMRs (in DaySmart) to reflect the most up to date information from their appointments or pertinent recent medical history as provided by the owner or other clinics.
- Surgical responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Prepping patients for their procedure following proper sterile protocols and IV catheter placement.
- Intubation, inducing, and anesthetic monitoring.
- Dental scaling, probing, radiographs, and polishing.
- Maintaining surgical equipment by following proper sterilizing techniques and overall weekly/monthly care instructions.
- Participate in facility maintenance by completing daily, weekly, and monthly checklists to aid in the clinic’s overall facility and equipment upkeep.
- Follow all current safety guidelines outlined by AAHA and OSHA and implemented upon training.
- Attending monthly staff meetings.
- From time to time, participation in promotional events outside of normal business hours will be required.
- Tasks as assigned by the Practice Manager.
Physical Requirements
- Must have the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, and crouch, as well as manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 50 pounds and over 50 pounds with a coworker.
- Must be able to endure sitting, standing and walking on hard floor surfaces for extended periods of time. (For the majority of a 10+ hour shift.)
- Must possess sufficient ambulatory skills to perform duties while in a hospital environment.
- Must be able to work in noisy work conditions with sounds from animals and equipment that can be moderately high.
- The employee will be routinely exposed to a variety of pets that may bite or scratch, and on occasion, exposed to anesthesia, radiation, zoonotic diseases, biological hazards, and medication/controlled substances.
