GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Volunteer Supervisor is responsible primarily for the coordination of CASA Volunteers’ individual casework, and secondarily for volunteer recruitment, training, and recognition, as well as community education, and public awareness. The Volunteer Supervisor is hired by and reports directly to the Program Manager. The Volunteer Supervisor provides professional staff support to CASA Volunteers, ensuring that children involved with the CASA program receive sound advocacy, that all program protocols are upheld, and that CASA volunteers receive the ongoing coaching and support needed to feel successful and remain engaged. The Volunteer Supervisor will also work cases of their own, as the appointed CASA. Please note that all duties listed below that apply to supervising volunteers in casework also apply to the Volunteer Supervisor’s own casework as a Court Appointed Special Advocate on staff cases.

DUTIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

1. Supervise assigned group of CASA volunteers, meeting with them regularly to receive reports and provide coaching and direction on all casework. Help each volunteer develop each case service plan, and continuously game plan ongoing strategies for advocacy.

2. Review new cases and coordinate volunteer case assignments with the clerk’s office, partners, and other
CASA staff members.

3. Prepare and distribute assignment documentation.

4. Attend all court hearings and track court dates, ensuring that volunteers know when to appear for court.

5. Participate actively in court proceedings and assist volunteers in doing so.

6. Attend all Citizens’ Panel Reviews and assist volunteers in tracking implementation of the panel’s recommendations.

7. Support inclusivity within the program and in practice, coaching volunteers in the reduction of personal bias and through active advocacy against inequities for children and families served.

8. Provide assistance and consultation for volunteers whenever needed.

9. Accompany volunteers on child and family visits as needed.

10. Provide visits and advocacy services to children and families as needed.

11. Review, edit, and distribute volunteer court reports.

12. Maintain updated paper case files in office, and online case files in two databases.

13. Provide monthly reports on volunteer efforts, as well as quarterly and annual operation reports as needed for the purpose of grant and statistical reporting.

14. Assist in the development and implementation of volunteer appreciation efforts.

15. Participate in multiple overnight, out-of-county training sessions and conferences annually.

16. Complete CASA volunteer training.

17. Participate in ongoing professional development training related to the child welfare system, child development, trauma, racial equity and social justice, juvenile law, CASA practice, substance abuse and addiction recovery, domestic violence, sexual assault, mental health, cultural sensitivity, the history and current role of inequities and disparities within the foster care system, volunteer supervision and leadership, and other relevant topics.

18. Participate in annual program evaluation processes.

19. Maintain confidentiality.

20. Facilitate and teach segments of volunteer pre-service training.

21. Assist the Program Manager and/or Volunteer Outreach Coordinator with community outreach efforts and events as needed, participating in programming to educate the community about the needs of child victims of abuse and neglect, and about CASA services.

22. Maintain current knowledge of juvenile code and DFCS policy as they apply to CASA, as well as an up-to- date awareness of grant requirements and restrictions.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor’s Degree preferred, in child development, psychology, sociology, social work, education or a related field, or equivalent experience.

2. Bilingual language skills, especially in English and Spanish, preferred.

3. Two years experience required (volunteer or paid) in one or more of the following areas: social services, child advocacy, volunteer supervision, volunteer CASA or guardian ad litem, child welfare, mental health, or a related field.

4. Ability to communicate with, supervise and empower volunteers to be effective in their roles. Prior experience working with volunteers is preferred.

5. The ability to work cooperatively with different types of personalities and people from a diverse range of backgrounds and experience, and to consistently relate to others in a courteous and professional manner.

6. Demonstrated strong writing skills.

7. A self-starter personality, with the ability to take on new and experimental projects with creativity and energy.

8. Time management skills with the ability to multitask.

9. Ability to work well independently and as a team-player.

10. Ability to interact positively with coworkers, the public, volunteers, board members, court and state personnel.

11. Knowledge and understanding of issues and dynamics within families in crisis relating to trauma and child maltreatment.

12. Proficient computer skills and experience in Microsoft Office programs.

13. Commitment to the goals and mission of Family Support Council, Inc., and Murray/Whitfield CASA.

14. Ability to pass FBI fingerprinting check, local background check, SSN verification, and sex offender registry check, and to provide four positive professional references. Applicants will be asked to submit to these checks only if offered a position. For program staff, these checks are repeated every 3 years. Refusal to sign a release of information form or to submit to the required screening checks would result in any such job offer being rescinded. Any applicant found to have been convicted of, or having charges pending for a felony or misdemeanor involving a sex offense, child abuse or neglect or related acts that would pose risks to children or the CASA program's credibility will not be accepted for employment. Any employee applicant who is employed by the Juvenile Court, the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services, or its contractors, foster parents, or is a volunteer with the Citizen Review Panel may not be employed by the
CASA program due to the risk of conflict of interest.
