Appalachian Community Services (ACS) an ncgCARE partner, provides mental health, substance abuse and intellectual/developmental disability services to individuals and families within the seven western counties of North Carolina. Our mission is to promote the emotional and physical well-being of consumers in a safe and respectful environment.

We are committed to providing a wide array of services to effectively meet the changing needs within the community. These services include counseling and psychiatry, substance use treatment, mobile and residential crisis stabilization, intensive in-home, community support teams, peer support and group homes.

DSPs provide direct support services, companion services and/or respite care to young adults and adults with Intellectual and Developmental disabilities (I/DD).

Services are provided to the clients at home and/or in the community setting, in accordance with the Person Centered Plan (PCP).

Direct Support Professionals (DSP) are directly supervised by a Team Leader, as well as the IDD Program Director.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Assists individuals in learning and developing new skills.

Provides and maintains a safe environment for the consumers.

Assists the consumer with attaining goals in order to have positive outcomes as described in the individual’s PCP.

Utilize positive reinforcement and behavior modification techniques.

Performs or assists the consumer with home maintenance activities as prescribed in the ISP.

Completes accurate documentation of the services.

Performs other job-related duties as may be assigned.

TRAINING:

All employees will be required to complete the mandatory training for state compliance purposes. All training can be completed on-site or virtually with monetary compensation.

COMPETENCIES:

High school diploma or equivalent

Ability to pass a background check and drug screen

Responsible work ethic and good communication skills

Compassionate and caring

Minimum age requirement of 18 years.

Maintain a professional attitude and demeanor and communicate effectively.

Ability to work in a variety of environments, ambulate throughout a patient's home, navigating stairs and other physical barriers typical to private residences.
