As a Paraprofessional/Teacher Assistant at our school, you will work closely with an assigned classroom teacher and grade to provide direct services to students and/or parents. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
· Under the direction and guidance of the assigned classroom teacher, assists and/or tutors children in the classroom individually or in small groups to help them master assignments and reinforce learning concepts presented by the teacher.
· Receive instructions each day from teacher, seeking clarification as needed on coordination of duties.
· Supervise students as assigned in classrooms, halls, cafeteria, playground, gym, Mass, and as directed.
· Proactively ensure that students understand teacher’s directions regarding use of materials, equipment and other classroom aids. Enforce safety precautions to ensure that students to not incur injuries with equipment, etc.
· Provide additional support and assistance to students with special needs and challenges as directed.
· Prepare materials, displays, bulletin boards, and other classroom presentations mindful of safety and in a way that enhances learning.
· Assist students as needed in shows, performances and other extra-curricular activities.
· Distribute materials to students as needed.
· Sits with children during meal and snack times, monitoring behavior.
· Keep inventory of classroom supplies and any checking in and checking out of materials by students.
· Prepare audio-visual equipment for presentations as needed.
· Prepare correspondence to parents under direction of teacher as needed.
· Preserve equipment, textbooks and other supplies with laminate, covers or other protective equipment, exercising good stewardship of resources.
· Enforce school policies governing students, morning drop-off and afternoon pickup, etc.
· Keep current with Virtus bulletins and comply with ADOM Safe Environment policies and procedures regarding protection of minors.
· Collect and grade homework and tests as directed.
· Monitor students and provide input to teacher on observations of individual student learning / behavior and any appearance of sickness or injury.
· Upholds and models a moral code which is consistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church and the mission and charism of the school
· Performs all assigned instruction and responsibilities in accordance with the educational objectives of the school
· Assist with taking attendance and maintaining attendance records on all students
· Dress in accordance with professional standards and the faculty dress code
· Become familiar with all policies stated in the faculty and student handbooks
· Assist in the enforcement of all school rules in and out of the classroom
· Remain at school for the entire school day as prescribed for faculty and informs the administration in advance when it is necessary to be absent from duties or leave the premises for any reason
· Maintain confidentiality and discretion on information regarding children, their families and other employees.
· Assist substitute teachers as needed
QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience
· High school diploma or GED; Bachelor degree preferred.
· One year experience working with lower-grade elementary school children in a supervised program
Language Skills
· Good oral and written English-language communication skills, including clear speaking voice.
· Good Spanish-language or Creole spoken communication skills a plus.
Other Knowledge, Skills, Attitudes
· Demonstrated history of maintaining confidentiality concerning school matters
· Must have excellent observation and information monitoring skills
· Must have good rapport with children and good interpersonal relationship skills with all ages
· Proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint preferred
· Good spelling and grammar required
· Must have ability to maintain focus on and professionalism with people in challenging situations, both in person and by phone
· Must be able to work through and resolve conflicts effectively
· Good time management, including ability to manage several projects at the same time
· Must be able to multi-task and remain effective in an environment of competing priorities
· Must be supportive of the mission and tenets of the Roman Catholic Church
· Must have a professional demeanor
