Job Overview
Amity Bible Church (ABC) is seeking a Director who will be responsible for overseeing budgets, planning, strategic, and tactical goals for ministries under the leadership of the Senior Pastor and Elders. The Director will assist in overseeing the organization, leadership, staff, and overall direction of ABC. He or she is responsible for executing the vision of the Senior Pastor through 1) Strategic leadership and planning, 2) Staff supervision and development, 3) Organization and systems development, 4) Facility/Property management and Expansion. As with all senior-level staff, the Director also carries the role of supporting and serving the Senior Pastor as needed in providing general leadership oversight.
Typically reports to the Senior Pastor.
Supervises 1-10 fulltime, part-time and volunteer staff.
The Director will achieve:
Strategic Leadership and Planning
- Execute the Senior Pastor’s vision for key church events as well as city-wide events.
- Participate in planning meetings, conduct/oversee meetings on behalf of the Senior Pastor, oversee specific groups or duties related to an event, follow up with various departments, leaders, and assignments.
- Coordinate and, as needed, lead various staff meetings and other activities designed to communicate and execute ABC’s goals and objectives including staff development and accountability.
- Monitor the pulse of the staff, congregation, and key leaders on various levels through research, data gathering, and evaluation.
- Provide assessment and recommendations to the Senior Pastor for further development of church ministries and events.
Staff Development and Supervision
- Maintain an environment which supports strong teamworking based on best practice frameworks.

Use collaborative tools for seamless communication (e.g., Slack, Microsoft Teams).

Establish clear, achievable goals and objectives.
Asses goals/bench marks and make corrections as needed.

Ensure that each team member feels valued and heard.

Hold regular meetings to review progress, address issues, and provide feedback.

Directly supervise assigned staff, which includes conducting performance evaluations and providing year-round supervision and performance feedback.

- Assist the Senior Pastor in the development of all activities (retreats, training, etc.) in order to help all church staff members, officers, and key leaders reach their full potential in Christ and in ministry leadership.
- Develop and implement individual growth plans for direct reports and in turn, ensure that your direct reports develop individual growth plans for their direct reports (keeping the Senior Pastor updated).
- Provide daily oversight, motivation, accountability, and assessment of direct reports schedules and activities to ensure each direct report is utilizing ministry work time to its maximum productivity.
- Directly supervise assigned staff, which includes conducting performance evaluations and providing year-round supervision and performance feedback.
- Collaborate with the Senior Pastor and other executives in interviewing, hiring, and dismissing staff.
Organization and Systems Development
- Assess and develop, along with the Senior Pastor and other executives, the ideal organizational structure of the church.
- Assist the Senior Pastor and executive team with strategic planning and goal setting for the purpose of creating a climate of ministry excellence and ongoing growth.
- Work in concert with the Senior Pastor, Elders, and other Executive Staff in the development of and adherence to church policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with the Senior Pastor in developing and implementing additional ministries, and other ventures of ABC.
- Conduct research and assessments of various components of the organization for the purpose of cost efficiency and optimization of systems.
- Collaborate with the Senior Pastor in regular reviews of the organization and ministry systems for improvement and church growth.
Accounting and Finance Administrative Responsibilities
- Ensure that Accounting, Information Technology, Security, and Administrative Services are operating in the most effective and efficient manner possible.
- Oversee the adequacy and soundness of the ministry's financial structure.
- Ensure timely presentation of monthly and annual financial statements.
- Develop and direct financial and accounting procedures to ensure accurate and efficient functions.
Facility/Property Expansion
- Provide oversight to facility management and/or property expansion, property searches, renovations, repairs, and/or campus development.
- Collaborate with the Senior Pastor, Elders, and other key executives in researching and purchasing church properties or facilities.
- Through Direct Reports, ensure that operational elements of Sunday morning and all other services are well-staffed by volunteers, leaders, and staff for all functions of the church.
- Continually assess ways to operate more efficiently with existing properties maximizing the use of all areas of the campus.
Education & Experience –
Minimum
- Minimum of five years experience in Business Administration, Church Administration, or related field.
- Minimum of five years’ experience as an Director or comparable role in church leadership.
Preferred
- Bachelor’s or Master's Degree in Business Administration, Church Administration, or related field along with seminary or Bible college credentials would be ideal (both from accredited schools).
- Minimum of seven years’ experience as an Director or comparable role in church leadership.
Expectations
- Subscribes to and affirm the Doctrinal Statement and Core Values of Amity Bible Church.
- A committed follower of Jesus Christ who demonstrates spiritual maturity and a growing personal relationship with the Lord within Christian community.
- At least five years in a multi-staff church setting with experience in administration and staff development is preferred.
- Strong technical and computer experience (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook, AV Systems, and other church management systems or technology, i.e., ShelbyNext).
Skills & Abilities
- Could be asked to teach and share the Word of God.
- Strong, professional, and mature interpersonal skills (both verbal and in writing). Must have the ability to communicate persuasively and compassionately.
- Has administrative abilities and is able to organize work and maintain appropriate work standards for the goal of accomplishing ministry assignments in a way that honors both God and people.
- Should be detail-oriented and decisive with the ability to organize and coordinate work, set priorities, meet deadlines, and provide executive summaries on a weekly basis to the Senior Pastor.
- High level of competence and proficiency with computers and all Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent organizational, administrative, and team development skills.
- Staff management skills – able to recruit, train, and lead staff.
